The 30-year old former AC Milan and Le Harve player joined the Trotters on a short term deal in September after a lengthy summer trial but the Wanderers boss points out that injuries have gone against the player since he signed for the club.
"Unfortunately the injury hindered his very rapid progress. He's had to start all over again in terms of match practice. But he's now had two reserve games and 65 minutes against Gillingham and i'm really pleased about that." Allardyce said
"In the first 45 minutes he showed some good play, some good touches, that's what we want to see but it takes time to get match fitness."
Allardyce also revealed that despite the players past pedigree only time will tell if he will make the grade at the Reebok Stadium and challenged the player to prove his doubters wrong and get his fitness levels back to a high level to make an impact on the Premiership.
"We know the history of the player and his talent. But we don't know if he can take that forward into being a top player for Bolton. But he has the chance to stake a claim to be a squad player and to be available for selection in every Premiership game. If that becomes the case then that is a good option for this football club" the manager added
