"For me, it is very important that my management style brings the very best out of him," he said.
"Our ambition is as good as his, but realising that is difficult for a club like ours. But we have a better chance with Nicolas Anelka playing to his best on a week-in week-out basis.
"If Nicolas wants to get into the Champions League he is going to be the main man to get us there. A lot rests on his shoulders, for us to get what we all want.
"If difficulties arise, as always, then I would deal with him as I would any other player in the past 14 or 15 years as a manager."
Allardyce claims his task is simple; if he keeps Anelka enjoying is football, than Wanderers can lay claim to one of the Premiership most proven hitmen.
"If he enjoys his football here, he should be in the top three or four goalscorers in the Premiership," he said.
"He appears to be able to handle that sort of pressure. Let's hope that he can become the most loved centre forward here since Nat Lofthouse, because he certainly could be that.
"We could do with another legend and I hope he becomes one."
Big Sam is also convinced he can help Anelka win back his place in the French national squad.
"I want Nicolas to get back into the national squad," he said. "It is a great shame that a man of his talents did not make the World Cup.
"Hopefully, by producing his best for Bolton he will get to that level again. We have a great opportunity to be successful together.
"We just want him to reproduce what he has done in the Premiership before."
