Bolton showed plenty of spirit in Saturdays defeat to Middlesbrough but never looked like getting anything out of the game at The Riverside.
Allardyce said: "We expected a lively start by Boro and didn't cope with it very well. But we had a lot of fortune with them not taking chances and never made the most of it.
"My worry is that we are creating chances and not taking them like last season. We are losing games we would have drawn last season and should have ten points at this stage of the season instead of seven.
"I am also concerned because our first half display was our worst since the first game of the season at Fulham. But I am confident we have the players to get us out of it.
"We will be OK if we start to pick up the points we should be - but we have to start soon."
