He said: "I see enough in West Ham to stay up this year, and to be comfortably clear of the bottom three.
"The start is always so important to a newly-promoted side, and West Ham have had a good start.
"Even though they will be disappointed with yesterday's result, a win and a draw from their first two games is a great beginning.
"Now they have to get over the disappointment of yesterday and make sure they get another result in their next match.
"If they do that, the team below them will have to play catch-up - and there is not the same amount of pressure as if you are in the bottom three from day one."
