Bolton Wanderers look likely to be forced to abandon their interest in the former Monaco left back Phillippe Leonard after the Bolton manager Sam Allardyce claimed that the Belgian international's wage demands where too excessive to complete a move to the club.
The 29-year old, without a club since leaving Monaco in the summer, looked likely to move to the Lancashire outfit on a Bosman transfer after impressing whilst training with the Wanderers during their recent trip to La Manga but now it seems any moves in the market will have to wait till January and with the purse strings remaining tight it will mean Allardyce will have to go with what he has and hope for no more serious injuries which has seen him without the services of Florent Laville for six months.
Commenting on the Leonard deal Allardyce was disappointed and said he had used up all of his out of contract options meaning that he will have to once again struggle along with the small amount of money he is being given to spend to try and build on what is already one of the smallest squads in the division.
"It doesn't look like it's happening because financially it's a greater demand than we can afford" he said
"I don't think we will get anybody in until January because of the problems, the right player with the right clearance and financially i dont think we have that much money to spend. Those areas are going to make life very difficult for us to do anything"
"The squad's not really got the strength in depth but, to be fair the sports science team and their prevention policy in keeping the players fit we're not overburdened - touch wood with not to many injuries at the moment"
"We've done well with the injury scenario, we're making full use of the small squad we have got and that's a nessecity for us until January when we can do something about it"
