Bolton Set To Sign Diouf On Loan

Senegal international El-Hadji Diouf is set to sign for Bolton Wanderers on a season long loan deal from Liverpool according to the Reds official website.

The 23-year old pacy attacker has been a prime target of Sam Allardyce for the last few weeks and now it seems as if the Bolton manager has got his man having previously been thwarted in his attempts to bring Dwight Yorke and Henri Camara to the Reebok Stadium.

Former African Player of the Year Diouf joined Liverpool for a fee over £10 million from Lens following a star display for his country in the 2002 World Cup held in Japan and Korea.

But things didn't go according to plan and since he has moved to Anfield he has failed to live up to his price tag and big reputation often making headlines for all the wrong reasons prompting previous Reds boss Gerard Houllier to label him as his "most expensive mistake ever" and it seems as if new Pool cheif Rafael Benitez is of the same view having failed to include the African in his first team plans for the new season.

Bolton manager Allardyce has a knack of rejuvenating players careers and
he feels he can help Diouf get back to his footballing best with a temporary switch to Lancashire for the season ahead.

"El-Hadji was won over by what Bolton's manager had to say and by the club's ambition. The aim to do even better than last season's 8th place finish." said Alexander Grouet representing the player.

It is beleived that the Trotters face competition from Premiership rivals Portsmouth and the Spanish side Malaga to land the Dakar-born forward.

Bolton have also been strongly linked with moves for the former Arsenal man Sylvain Wiltord and Athletico Madrid striker Musampa but it remains to be seen whether the club will follow up any interest if they secure the services of Diouf.
