Bolton take a look at Diawara

The 23-year old defender Diawara, who has played for Red Star Paris and more recently St Ettiene during his career is said to be linking up with Wanderers for their tour of Malta this week, joining former French international Ibrahim Ba who is also hoping to earn a deal at The Reebok Stadium.

He is one of a number of faces who have been put on trial periods to see if they can offer the quality that Wanderers need going into their third successive Premiership campaign, however with finances being tight the deal has to be right for the club as well as the player.

Already this summer we have seen a number of continental trialists trying to follow the lead of Kevin Davies in earning a permanent deal at the club including Tomasz Klos, Ibrahim Said, Robert Vittek and also Rene Bolf and Diawara (no relation to the ex-Wanderer Djibril Diawara) is hoping he can impress Big Sam enough to earn a deal during the next week.

Spanish defender Unai Vergara is also expected to link up with the squad in the next few days after Villareal gave permission for Bolton to take the player to Malta.

Meanwhile the club have also been linked to Everton's injury prone striker Duncan Ferguson. It is said The Toffees may pay him off to help him find a new club after his second spell on Merseyside was less fruitful. With the emergence of Wayne Rooney and the form of Tomasz Radzinski it means Ferguson's chances of first team football won't be as prominent as in previous years and apparently this has alerted ourselves and Wolves to his situation.
