Spearing in Bolton frame
New signing Jay Spearing could come straight into Bolton's starting line-up when Reading visit the Reebok Stadium.
Spearing, who had a spell on loan with the Trotters last season, completed a permanent switch from Liverpool to Dougie Freedman's side after completing a medical on Thursday afternoon.
Freedman is sweating of the fitness of Chris Eagles, though, with the winger missing the Capital One Cup win over Shrewsbury due to an ankle injury.
Eagles is rated as doubtful and may join Mark Davies, Stuart Holden and Joe Riley - all suffering from long-term knee injuries - on the sidelines.
Reading boss Nigel Adkins has striker Nick Blackman available.
The former Sheffield United man returns from the one-match ban he served following an altercation with a steward last season.
Adkins could decide to stick with the same team that recorded a 2-1 win over Ipswich on the opening day of the campaign.
Midfielder Daniel Williams is in contention to make his first league start for the Royals should the manager choose to shuffle his pack.
