The Mexican said: "It a fantastic for me, it was my wife's birthday and it was a present for her and the team.
"I will give my best for the team and for the fans. I want to stay here and fight for my place in the team."
Captain Kevin Nolan said: "I am delighted for him and hopefully he can go on for a bit of a run for us over the next few weeks."
Nolan also spoke of his ambitions for this season, "Hopefully at the end of the season we will come away with at least one trophy and a place in the top six.
"My aim personally is to keep my place in the team and chip in a few goals when needed, and just play to the best of my ability."
