"Kevin is a very good player," said Allardyce. "He is a very good all-round player.
"He has found a goalscoring touch, that's four in six games now, and he is incredibly important for us.
"If we want to move on and get more points on the board and get a Uefa Cup spot we need that to continue."
Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers have appointed Barry Simmons as their director of scouting to head up a new world-wide scouting network.
Boss Sam Allardyce says the appointment of Simmons, who previously held posts at Crystal Palace and FK Viking in Norway, heralds a new era for the club.
"Barry will head up a massive operation which includes nine scouts located around the world," the manager said.
"This will double in size by the end of the season as we continue to cast our scouting net far and wide."
Previous chief scout and veteran talent spotter, Jack Chapman, retired earlier this year.
