Cahill had been in excellent form before the set back, and was regarded as an England World Cup possible.
His return will be a boost for Bolton after initial reports suggested the defender could be out for the remainder of the season.
Those fears were allayed after further examinations, and the 24-year-old was an unused substitute for Saturday's defeat at Everton.
Cahill is expected to be joined in the side by fellow first-team squad members Ali-Al Habsi, Mark Davies, Danny Shittu and Ricardo Vaz Te, all of whom are part of the Bolton squad for tonight's game.
