Reports have suggested that Chesterfield may be on the verge of signing former Bolton Wanderers utility player Paul Warhurst as the Third Division club have confirmed they are to make a high profile new signing within the next 48 hours after a local business stumped up the cash for the Spirites to make the signing.

Veteran utility player Warhurst, who has also played for Oldham Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers, Crystal Palace and Stoke City during a 15-year career which has seen three million pound plus moves is a name hotly tipped to join.

Warhurst joined Bolton from Crystal Palace in 1998 for £800,000 but his four years at the Reebok Stadium where blighted by injury forcing Sam Allardyce to hand the player a Free Transfer in the summer as the players contract ended. However the 35-year old was invited back to train with the club a few weeks ago but decided to reject fresh terms offered by the club to ressurect his career at the Reebok Stadium, choosing to look elswhere for more regular first team football.

The switch to Saltergate would be an ideal move for the player who when fit will be an asset. The Third Division side are managed by former Wanderers manager Roy McFarland and have ex-Wanderers duo David Reeves and Alan O'Hare in their squad.
