Charlie Comyn-Platt became the latest player to make the switch from the club's Youth Academy to First Team level when he came on as a substitute for Bruno N'Gotty in the final ten minutes of last night's Carling Cup win over Walsall.
The 17-year old centre back, who has been on the clubs books for a number of years followed in the footsteps of the likes of Kevin Nolan and Nicky Hunt in graduating from the clubs Youth Academy to make his first team bow.
A regular in the Reserve team nowadays, the Manchester born defender will be hoping that his breif appearance last night, which he handled okay is just the start of things to come in his footballing career and he hopes to have made a good enough impression on the Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce to warrant more inclusions into the first team squads.
Since its formation in 1998 the Youth Academy has seen a number of players make their first team bow. Kevin Nolan was the first player to make the step up and he has remained in the first team ever since, Nicky Hunt has since followed suit becoming a regular in the early part of this season. Danny Livesey had a chance to stake his claim last season as did Cleveland Taylor but they where unable to build on their initial promotions to the first team, but the likes of Chris Downey and Wayne Buchanan failed to impress sufficiently and have since moved on. However the club rate Charlie Platt very highly and hope the youngster who turns 18 next week can make an impact on a similar scale of Nolan and Hunt.
