Coyle was delighted with Elmander in last Saturday's goalless draw at The Reebok, even though the 29-year-old striker failed to bury two chances.
The club's £8million record signing has yet to set English football alight, scoring just eight league goals in two seasons and 45 appearances.
But Coyle believes it is honly a matter of time before the Swedish international starts firing.
"Johan was terrific in the game and what we need is for him to be consistent with that level of performance," Coyle told Bolton's official website.
"I'm sure that if he continues at that level of performance, then the goals will go in for him, it's as simple as that. I think he was one of the positives against Fulham."
Bolton travel to West Ham on Saturday hoping to complete their third successive league victory at Upton Park.
They have lost there just twice in the last decade and the ground gave Coyle his first away win as Bolton manager, a 2-1 triumph in March.
Four successive clean sheets, including pre-season matches, has left the 44-year-old confident the club's run in east London can continue.
"We worked everso hard against Fulham, I felt we played some good football and it was great to keep a clean sheet," he added.
"It wasn't until February last year when the club got their first clean sheet in the Premier League and we all know that if you have that platform, that foundation of clean sheets, you're going to pick up points on a weekly basis.
"We know how hard they are to come by in the Premier League because of the quality we face."
