Coyle put 18 members of his Trotters squad through their paces in Thursday's clash against the North American Soccer League club at their Al Lang Field stadium in St Petersburg, Florida.
Rowdies substitute Matt Clare scored the only goal of the game in the second half, with home goalkeeper Evan Newton performing heroics to keep the visitors at bay.
The Bolton boss told the club's official website: "It was exactly what we wanted at this stage in our pre-season.
"The game was played in the right spirit and atmosphere, and credit to Tampa who worked their socks off and scored a very good goal.
"The main aim was that we had a good run out and we achieved that.
"We are here for fitness. We trained in the morning ahead of the game and while you obviously want to win every game you play, our focus is on our conditioning and fitness.
"We come here because of the heat and humidity, as it sets us up very well.
"We had supporters over from Bolton and that was great and the home fans were brilliant too because they got behind their team.
"I would like to thank everyone at Tampa for the warm welcome and hospitality. We have made some great friends and I would like to wish Ricky (Hill), his team and the club all the very best for their season."
Bolton are next in action on Sunday night when they take on Adrian Heath's Orlando City FC at the Citrus Bowl.
