Former Bolton Wanderers striker Brian Kidd has undergone surgery to cure prostate cancer and is facing a battle to be fit enough in time to be part of Sven Goran Eriksson's backroom team for England's European Championship bid this summer in Portugal.

Kidd who will be 55 this month, is recovering at his Manchester home following the operation and hopes to be back in the daily routine before the international tournament begins in June. Second Division Barnsley have offered the former Manchester United assistant a coaching role for next season but it expected any decision for the future of the experienced coach will be made later on in the year.

"We are aware that Brian has undergone a serious operation. We all look forward to him making a speedy recovery" An FA Spokesperson told the Sunday tabloids yesterday.

Another former Wanderer Alan Stubbs battled successfully against the illness in 2001 and is now playing regularly for Everton in the Premiership. We at BoltonMAD wish "Kiddo" a speedy recovery.
