Former Bolton Wanderers manager Colin Todd could be set for a return to football management with Darlington after it emerged that the Quakers boss Mick Tait could leave the Reynolds Arena.
Former Middlesbrough, Derby County and Swindon Town manager Todd was one of the most successful Wanderers coaches of the modern day era, first proving to be a succesful assistant to Bruce Rioch, winning promotion twice in three years in 1993 and 1995 as well as reaching the League Cup final in 1995 where the Trotters eventually lost 2-1 to Liverpool. He took the job on himself in 1996 following the departure of Roy McFarland and guided the club to the Division 1 Championship in 1997 where the club broke numerous records, however just over two years later he resigned after the club sold star asset Per Frandsen to Blackburn Rovers and has since had failed attempts at returning to management with both Swindon and Derby but a potential move to Darlo would take him back to his North East roots.
Another contender for the job should Tait resign would be Peter Beardsley, the ex-Wanderers striker ironically signed by Todd in 1997. Beardo has left Newcastle United's youth set up having been cleared of misconduct and now it looks like the former Newcastle United & Liverpool legend will be keen to take his first steps into management
