Gardner Wants Forward Role

Ricardo Gardner has praised Henrik Pedersen's performances at left back this season and is pleased to be playing further up the pitch because of the Dane's good form.

"It's a pleasant change for me because I enjoy going forward and doing what I like doing, going at defenders and trying to get crosses into the box," he said.

"I'm prepared to play wherever the manager puts me and I'll always give 100 per cent. He has improved my game a lot on the defensive side, but I still prefer attacking."

"Henrik did well in the pre-season games and and he's gone on from there," Gardner said in an interview to be screened by Wanderers TV.

"He's been exceptional. It is a big advantage that we can both play the two roles. We support each other really well. Whenever he goes forward, I can fill in for him. We can switch very easily and that helps the team a lot.

"The understanding is getting better and better the more games we play together."

Meanwhile, Bolton have appealed against Ricardo Gardner's red card in the Chelsea game on Saturday for deliberate handball. They will find out on Tuesday if they are to be successful or not.

Referee Rob Styles will also look at the Michael Essien tackle and the Chelsea midfielder could still be charged by the FA and handed a ban following his horrific challenge on Bolton's Tal Ben Haim.

Styles said: "I was fairly close to the incident and had a good view. I'll have another look at the video on Tuesday."
