New signing Steve Howey has said that the opportunity to move to Bolton Wanderers came completely out of the blue but the former England player admits it is an opportunity which he couldn't miss out on.
"I just got a phone call on Wednesday that Bolton where interested. I spoke to Sam Allardyce and given the situation at Leicester it was a fantastic opportunity which I couldn't pass up" he told the clubs official site
Former Newcastle United and Manchester City man Howey, who joins Wanderers on a contract until the end of the season says that he has been impressed with the way the Trotters have handled themselves this season and reckons that they are a force to be reckoned with
"Over the last couple of weeks I've had the chance to watch Bolton on television in the Semi Final of the Carling Cup and the way they played against Aston Villa, especially in the first leg, really impressed me. They thoroughly deserved to go through to the final and are proving they are a force to be reckoned with in the Premiership. Everyone thought that Bolton would be fighting at the wrong end of the league where now that is not the case. They have proved their critics wrong with some awesome displays during the campaign" he added
Howey 32, is looking forward to meeting his new team mates and is aiming to be a regular fixture in the Bolton side between now and the end of the season.
"I haven't worked with any of the current players. The challenge of meeting up with my new collegues excites me and being part of the squad from now until the end of the season is what I will aim for"
"The Premier League every year seems to be getting faster and the competitive edge is all apparent. I'm not a million miles from being match fit and being part of Big Sam's plans for the rest of the season" he said
