The 35-year old joined the Latics for training earlier this week but Jewell has admitted that it was done merely as favour to the player and to current Wigan veteran Per Frandsen, who was a former team mate of Tofting at Bolton Wanderers.
"Seeing him in training, he can obviously play, He makes the game look very easy and very simple." said Jewell
However the Wigan boss confirmed that the training stint would not lead to a contract
"I'm not going to take him. We're just doing the lad and Per Frandsen a favour." he added
