Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has decided against offering a contract to midfielder Georgi Kinkladze who has spent the last month on trial at the Reebok Stadium.

The 30-year old Georgian international has been without a club since severing his ties with Nationwide League outfit Derby County last summer and after a number of similar trial spells with the likes of Portsmouth, Leeds United and Greek side Panathinaikos the player found himself back in the North West where Sam Allardyce gave him a month in the reserves to try and re-create the form which made him a cult hero during his time with our local rivals Manchester City.

However whilst acknowledging the player's undoubted talent the Trotters boss said that the player was too similar to captain Jay-Jay Okocha and felt that he could not accomodate Kinkladze in the same side as the Nigerian.

"He can do somebody a job but I think that the way he plays and the way Jay Jay Okocha plays means they are too similar.

“I don’t think I could put them both in the same team because of the similarities in the way they play.” Allardyce said.

The snub by the Wanderers boss may bring an end to Kinkladze's reign in England which began in fine style back in 1995 when he gained national acclaim for his performances in a struggling Manchester City team who where eventually relegated along with Wanderers at the end of the 1995-1996 season.
