Veteran forward Les Ferdinand hopes that his late goal against Manchester United will have forced him further into the first team reckoning.
Ferdinand has been used mainly as a substitute since his summer move from Leicester City but is now hoping for a more permanent place in the Wanderers team having scored late on against the Red Devils.
The 36-year old was disappointed to see the team concede a goal in injury time as David Bellion rescued a point for United but he remained upbeat as he assessed the game.
"We were very disappointed but it just goes to show how far this football club has come when you get a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at home," Ferdinand told the clubs official site
"It was nice to get off the mark and get one under the belt. When you sit on the bench you are always looking for an opportunity to get on and hope you can influence the game. I thought I'd done it on Saturday but we got a point out of it."
The former Spurs and Newcastle forward anticipated the chance to score when Jay-Jay Okocha's long ball caused confusion amongst the United goalkeeper Tim Howard and his defender Mikael Silvestre allowing the evergreen Ferdinand the chance to open his Bolton account for the season.
"Jay Jay spotted that I'd made a run and I was willing the ball to go over Silvestre's head but I managed to get a touch on it. I heard the 'keeper shouting and I thought that they were going to make a meal out of it. That's exactly what they did and I managed to come clear with it."
"Sir Les" hopes that he can start a few games over the course of the campaign but knows it won't be easy as last season's Player of the Year Kevin Davies is currently occupying the main striker role.
"I'm hoping to start in some games but Kevin Davies did very well all last season and is being given the opportunity to do the same this season, and that's exactly what he's doing."
