The on-loan Bolton player fears Zico's belief in passing football could cause them problems against stronger sides.
Nakata said: "Our passing with Japan can be our greatest strength but at the same time our greatest weakness.
"We have a habit of getting ourselves in a situation where, when we are under pressure, we persist in passing in an impossible situation.
"Both the Japanese team and Bolton sometimes rely too much on one particular type of play.
"Unless both teams learn to add other aspects they will find it difficult to improve and move forward.
"Some of our players need to ask themselves the question whether their aim is to play well as an individual, or actually win the World Cup."
