The chairman of the Nigerian FA will plan to visit Bolton Wanderers this week in the hope that he can persuade the Trotters to release star midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha for the forthcoming international friendly between Nigeria and Japan on August 20th.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is furious that Okocha is having to travel around the world for international matches which have been sandwiched between two important Premiership games against Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, whilst the Everton manager David Moyes is equally unhappy that he should lose star defender Joseph Yobo for the friendlies.

Samuel Kaalu, a spokesman for the Nigerian FA is hopeful that a compromise can be reached in the club versus country row.

"We won't be confrontational but we will try to persuade the clubs to release them for the trip" Kaalu said

"The chairman will be in England this week and he plans to meet with both Bolton and Everton to discuss the players international commitments. Hopefully we should all be able to reach a kind of understanding"
