Kevin Nolan believes Wanderers are finally commanding the respect they deserve as an established Premiership force.
"Even though we are not respected by the pundits or the national newspapers, we are respected by the teams who come here and sit back and try and hit us on the break," Nolan said.
"We've got to know how to deal with that but we showed on Sunday that we can break it down.
"Okay we missed a few chances and came unstuck a couple of times first half, but we are still learning and we've shown the gaffer that we can break teams down and get the results we need."
Nolan captained the side against West Brom on Sunday and was proud to do it, but he won't have any problems handing back the armband to club captain Jay Jay Okocha.
"I was happy to take it (the captaincy) and especially proud because I've been at the club now for nearly 10 years," he said.
"It's nice to walk out in front of a big crowd and get that goal, to win and get a clean sheet.
"The gaffer told me in the meeting just before the game. I didn't know he was gong to give it to me. I was just happy to take it, but I'll be happy to hand it back when Jay Jay or Speedo are fit and that's if they can get back in."
