Megson travelled to Davies' home on the Isle of Man this week to outline his needs for the team. And he said: "I will have 14 outfield players left at the end of the season. We have had a meeting and talked about reconstructing this club and its transition.
"We have to have more players coming in for us to get where we want to be. If we stayed with what we've got, which we won't, then we would get relegated without a doubt.
"Look at what's happened to clubs like Southampton and Norwich. We need to keep pushing forward.
"You always wish to have more but this can come with consequences.
"The more you spend, the greater the pressure and the more you are judged. With this comes greater expectations.
"We just need to keep progressing. We are already talking to one player who is close to joining us. We've stayed up the last two seasons and are still in the black.
"But we are right down to the wire now in terms of players and it's a no-brainer."
