Sam Allardyce has confirmed an interest in the Japanese international and the player would relish the chance of swapping Feyenoord for the Reebok Stadium.
"Shinji is looking to leave for a new challenge after four-and-a-half years at Feyenoord," his agent Chiel Dekker told Sky Sports.
"Feyenoord are ready to co-operate to let Shinji leave and we know what Sam Allardyce said about him.
"Bolton have been watching him for some time. I think Shinji would be able to play in the Premier League as it would suit his style.
"We are now waiting to see if Feyenoord and Bolton can agree something and it depends on the two clubs."
