Russian captain Viktor Onopko has decided to stay in his homeland by signing a one-year contract with Russian club Saturn-Ren TV MO linking up with his former manager Oleg Romantsev who knew the player during his Spartak Moscow days.
The 34-year old held trials with both the Wanderers and Everton, hiring an English agent to help find him a club in Britain following his departure from Alania Vladkavikaz earlier in the season but the veteran 109 times capped international has decided to stay in Russia.
Onopko's decision will come as a massive disappointment for both Bolton boss Sam Allardyce and Everton's David Moyes who both saw the experienced central defender as an ideal signing but the former Oviedo player has decided to get a club before the transfer window opens.
