Pollitt was born near the Reebok Stadium and played for Bolton boys. His favourite team had him watched but did not follow it up and he jumped at the chance to join Manchester United at 16.
Pollitt, 33, said: "I'd love to be involved against Sam's Bolton.
"I was a Bolton fan as a kid and I've got a bit of history with him at Notts County.
"I have to thank Sam really. He allowed me to keep playing that year which ultimately led to the move to Rotherham and stability.
"And when you look at where I am now, how can you complain?
"I was relegated with Rotherham but found myself playing against Chelsea in the Premiership in the first match of this season.
"If I can help Wigan reach the semis I'll give it my best shot, even if it means I might not be popular back in Bolton."
Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce wants three new signings in January.
Allardyce said: "I would like to bring in up to three new players on loan anyway and if we beat Wigan that will become an absolute must.
"The last thing I want is for us to go through but see our season peter out because we pick up injuries or suspensions and haven't got the squad to cover those scenarios."
