With the Premier League nearly over, it?s time to take a
look at what matches to look out for, and how the relegation battle is at the
moment.
Relegation battle between is between Blackburn, Bolton, QPR,
Wigan and Wolverhampton, only 6 point separate Blackburn ? in 16th
place, and Wolves at the bottom of the table with 22 points.
Wolves haven?t won any of their last 5 matches, having drawn
once and lost four times, and out of their last ten games they only won once,
against QPR. Out of the eight games left, two of them are direct clashes
against Bolton next week and their last game is against Wigan, this one could
be the decisive game. Wolves also have to play against big teams like Arsenal
and Manchester City, both at home. With only 22 points so far, and 24 remaining,
they can?t afford to lose many more points otherwise relegation could be on the
cards for Roberto Martinez and his team.
Bolton are not in the best of positions, they are not in the
relegation zone, but in 17th place and with only 26 points, they
very well could be. They have lost 6 out of their last ten games, and apart
from the game between them and Wolves, which could be decisive, they have to
play Newcastle away and they host Spurs at The Reebok Stadium. Even though
since Fabrice Muamba?s suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Bolton,
football must be the last thing on anyone?s mind over there, but they shouldn?t
lose sight of things, they don?t have a really hard calendar and I think they
can stay in the Premier.
Last year?s Championship winners QPR are in 18th
place equal on 25 points with 19th place Wigan, even after spending
millions in the January transfer window, and appointing new manager Mark
Hughes, they still couldn?t keep away from the relegation zone, despite winning
against Liverpool two games ago they
have only won six of their last 10 games. The west London club have one of the
hardest calendars as they still have to play teams like Arsenal and Tottenham
at Loftus Road and will be visiting Manchester United, Manchester City and
Chelsea. Mark Hughes will have to make sure his men don?t let their guard down,
especially when playing against both Manchester United and City because if they
are still playing for the title, they will not give QPR an easy time.
In 19th place are Roberto Martinez and his team
Wigan Athletic, they have the lowest goals per match average than any other
team with just 0.9 games per match, they are in bad form as they have only won two
of their last 10 matches and were at the bottom until two weeks ago, and last
week saw them win against Liverpool, which surprised most people. Just like
QPR, their calendar isn?t the easiest they have to play Chelsea, Arsenal and
Fulham away and Man U, Newcastle and Wolverhampton (direct clash) at home.
Blackburn are 17th in the table but with 28
points they?re still in danger of relegation as they are only 6 points away
from Wolves. They?ve only won 2 of their last 5 games and still have to play
Manchester United, Liverpool and a direct clash with Wigan at home and will
play Tottenham and Liverpool away, among others.
As always the battle for relegation is full of excitement,
right now five teams are in danger of going down, sadly 3 of them definitely
will, but when facing getting relegated teams find strength and will power that
come out of nowhere, hopefully with that and hard work they can avoid the
descent into the Championship.
