The Trotters slipped to a 1-0 defeat against the Black Cats in one of only two Barclays Premier League fixtures to avoid falling victim to the freezing weather on Saturday.
A busy festive programme now awaits Bolton, and Ricketts wants to see his team bounce back from only their fourth league defeat of the season.
"We've not lost many games and when we have we have normally responded straight away with good performance and good results," Ricketts told club website www.bwfc.co.uk. "That's what we need to do on Boxing Day against an in-form West Brom team that have had some outstanding results this season.
"The Reebok has been a fortress and it has been the place where we have built our season so far. To have further success you need to get results at home and we have done that in the first few months of the season.
"In a way, it's important that the lads do hate the feeling of the defeat at Sunderland so that they don't want it replicated again. We've set ourselves standards and when we reach those we will win more matches than not."
