Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has explained why he allowed popular defender Simon Charlton to make the move to Premiership new boys Norwich City.
Charlton completed a shock move to the Canaries on a two year contract this morning and Allardyce pointed out that the current deal for the experienced defender was up for renewal in June of next year with the club unable to offer a long term commitment which the former Huddersfield Town and Southampton full back desired.
"Simon Charlton has been a great ambassador and a great servant to Bolton Wanderers and I would like to wish him well in his move to Norwich City. Simon's contract expires in June and he was looking for a long term deal which we weren't prepared to offer him" he said
The departure of Charlton leaves the Wanderers looking for more recruits to add to the back line over the summer. Allardyce has added the Tunisian international stopper Radhi Jaidi to his squad recently but looks set to lose both Emerson Thome and Danny Livesey who look set to move on following the former England defender Steve Howey out of the Reebok exit door.
