Bolton manager Sam Allardyce will be spending the weekend in Spain on a scouting mission checking on a couple of players who he beleives could be the missing ingredients in helping Wanderers make the step up in quality for next season.
A top class striker and another defender are the main prioritys of the Trotters supremo and he is hoping for both players to be in place by the August 31st transfer deadline.
So far Allardyce has been thwarted in his attempts to sign a new goal getter with the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Hakan Sukur, Arnold Bruggink and Mario Jardel either proving too costly or accepting better offers elswhere, but he is continuing his search with the help of scouts Jack Chapman and Paul Jones.
It has been a similar story on the defensive side too, despite securing the services of last season's loan star Florent Laville, it leaves the Wanderers still short on defensive cover having seen Gudni Bergsson, Mike Whitlow, Paul Warhurst and Colin Hendry depart for pastures new over the summer.
So far Ivan Campo, Florent Laville, Stelios Giannakopoulos and Kevin Davies have been secured to the club with the possibility of Ibrahim Ba to follow and Big Sam admits the squad as it is now will be the squad he takes to Old Trafford with any new faces added between now and the end of August having to play catch up in terms of fitness in contrast to the rest of the squad who have been training hard since the start of July.
One player who will not be joining the club from Spain however is Villareal defender Vergara Unai who the Wanderers manager decided against signing on a loan deal despite the players willingness to join compatriot Campo at the Reebok Stadium.
