Bolton Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of Newcastle United's experienced midfielder Gary Speed on a two year deal within the next day or so.
The Welsh international has been touted for a move away from St James Park this summer with a whole host of clubs linked to the 34-year old who cost the Toon Army £5.5 million when moving from Everton in February 1998.
Speed holds the record for the most appearances in the Premiership having clocked up over 300 appearances in the top flight for three different clubs and his experience is sure to be invaluable to the Wanderers next season. He appeared in all of Newcastle's Premiership matches last term including the match against Bolton in March when a freak Henrik Pedersen goal gave the Trotters victory.
Manager Sam Allardyce was hopeful that all the loose ends to the deal would be completed by the end of today
"I am hopeful that Gary will complete his move later today.
"This will be a major coup for us as I know other clubs were interested in signing him." he told the official site
