Bolton-born Pollitt has played for a number of clubs in a 15-year playing career including a spell at Notts County where he was managed by Sam Allardyce.
The Trotters are also beleived to be keeping a close eye on Oldham Athletic teenager Scott Spencer after the 15-year old produced a number of impressive performances in the Latics youth set up.
