The 20-year-old has been brought in following an injury to Anthony Pilkington and will remain with the npower League One club until May 31, making him eligible should Town be involved in the play-offs.
Manager Lee Clark, who first enquired about Ward in August, then again during the January transfer window, told the club`s official website: "Anthony`s injury has left us with only one senior winger.
"I like my wide men and Danny brings with him a lot of experience from his time with Swindon last year.
"Aiden Chippendale impressed against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, but I feel we need someone with more experience.
"We have been monitoring Danny for a while now and have been very impressed with his performances for the Bolton reserve side. There were a lot of clubs interested in Danny and I would like to thank Owen Coyle for letting us have him."
