Bolton Wanderers Assistant Manager Phil Brown has joined the increasing number of people who feel that Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson deserves a call up to the full England Squad amid rumours that England Assistant Tord Grip was keeping tabs on both Thompson and Parkhead teammate Chris Sutton in recent weeks.
Former Wanderers favourite Thompson had five good years with the Trotters and Brown beleives the form of his good friend for the Hoops would be the answer to the Three Lions much publicised left sided problem.
"I've watched Alan's progress since he left the club and he's gone from strength to strength. He's a very good friend of mine and i'm not saying this lightly but i would suggest that he's good enough to venture in the England side"
"I think Sven (Goran Eriksson) needs to look at him considering the problems we have down the left hand side. The lad's got quality; he has a great left foot, good enthusiasm, dedication and a lot of bottle. If Alan was in the England squad it wouldn't be a bad shout" Brown told the clubs Official Site.
It would no doubt bring back memories for Wanderers fans who in the 1997-1998 season where crying out for the Newcastle-born player to be picked for the national side following a good last season with the club and I feel any call up would be long overdue.
