Gomaa told FilGoal.com, "I did receive an offer from Bolton to join them this season through a British player agency."
"I'm just waiting for Ahli officials to give me the green light in order to travel to England for three days to undergo a medical," the Egypt international added.
Gomaa said that he understands Ahli's reluctance to accept the English offer but noted this could be his last chance to land a European contract.
"I'm 31-year-old and a chance like that might not come again," he said. "It would be great to play in the Premiership."
Meanwhile, experienced centre-half Samuel Kuffour looks set for a Premiership move, with Bolton and Portsmouth interested in his signature.
The Ghanaian World Cup player, a former Bayern Munich star, is not in the plans of Roma coach Luciano Spalletti for the coming season.
"We are trying to find a new destination for Kuffour," said agent Oscar Damiani.
"But for the moment there is nothing concrete."
In other news, Gary Speed has signed a new two year contract which will keep him at the club until 2008.
