Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that the club have taken 27-year old Chilean defender Jorge Vargas on trial following intense weekend reports linking the player to the Whites.
Vargas, an international with Chile has been linked on numerous occasions over the summer since he left Italian side Reggina and has a good pedigree at both domestic and international level which is why the Bolton manager is keen to take a look at the player and as he is unattached it will mean if succesful he will sign for the club immediately.
"Jorge is here on trial and we will take a look at him over the next week" Allardyce confirmed.
Southampton where also reportedly keen on signing the player whilst Wanderers will be hoping the trial is successful as they look to fill the void left by the long term injury to Florent Laville two weeks ago.
Out of contract trio Saliou Lassissi, Marijan Kovacevic and Zoran Mirkovic have all had chances to join the club having been on trial but Allardyce thought neither of the three where good enough to replace Laville despite all three being internationals. Potuguese defender Joao Manuel Pinto is also on trial with the club and is hoping to impress the Wanderers manager sufficiently to be offered a deal but all depends on what the former Benfica defender would want in wages.
