Juventus striker Marcelo Zalayeta has once again been linked with a move to Bolton Wanderers with a number of media sources claiming that the club will break their transfer record in a bid to land the Urugruayan front man.

The 25-year old was linked to the Trotters last summer as Sam Allardyce looked to improve his attacking options but the lack of funds at the Reebok Stadium meant that the Bolton boss had to look elsewhere in his recruitment drive however due to Wanderers successes last season Allardyce will have more scope in the transfer market meaning a move for the South American could be a strong possibility.

Zalayeta has fallen way down the pecking order at the Stadio Delle Alpi due to the form of players such as Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Marco Di Vaio so a move away from Serie A could be the perfect tonic. The Italian club's capture of former Bolton target Olivier Kapo from Auxerre will further push the former Empoli and Perugia loanee closer to the exit door.

Whether or not Allardyce would want to break the £3,500,000 fee paid out to Wimbledon for Dean Holdsworth back in 1997 on such a player remains to be seen but the potential move for both Zalayeta and Wolves striker Henri Camara mean that the club are keen to strengthen their strikeforce to find a long term partner for the ever improving Kevin Davies.
