"We are aware of our limitations, but we also know, with the quality we have here, we can be in this position for many years to come," he said.

"The season has been very successful and, even though we failed in our ultimate goal of clinching a UEFA Cup spot, you cannot deny how far we have come by establishing ourselves in the top half of the Premier League on a regular basis.

"In the past three seasons we have finished eighth, sixth and eighth, which is remarkable for a club of our size. You have to go back to the 1920s to see comparative seasons.

"Many people in the game cannot believe we can continue to achieve what we are doing, but I like to prove people wrong and I will continue to do so.

"The players will come back fitter and fresher next season. Our objective is to maintain and improve on this season. Europe is not beyond us and with the right blend we can get back into the top six."
