"If we go down, then I will stop playing because I'm sure that next season will be very different in the First Division," said Djorkeaff.
"I have one year left on my contract at Bolton, so if we stay up I will definitely play next year if the manager wants me.
"I don't know if I would want to be involved in playing for promotion next season but staying up this year would mean as much to me as winning the World Cup and European Championship with France because I never knew how hard it would be to help a club stay in the Premiership.
"I love playing for Bolton because the fans are so passionate towards me and I feel very lucky about that," he added.
"I know that Manchester United fans still sing about Eric Cantona, even though it is now six years since he stopped playing for them. In five years' time I'd like the Bolton fans to regard me in the same way that Cantona is regarded at Old Trafford.
"Today, when Cantona watches United play, he will know that he helped them grow into the team they are now. I also want to give something back and helping the club stay in the Premiership is in my power, so that's what I am trying to do."
