Bolton Wanderers emphasised their need for a striker as plenty chances went begging as La Liga aces Real Mallorca visited the Reebok Stadium in a 0-0 stalemate.

Bolton welcomed back Ricardo Gardner to the side following his summer exploits with Jamaica in the Gold Cup and he gave the Mallorca full back the run around in the first half with the likes of Kevin Nolan, Per Frandsen and Ivan Campo pulling the strings in midfield.

However the need for a striker is all too evident, Henrik Pedersen had three gilt edged chances including a one on one following good work by Frandsen but was unable to finish either off. To be fair he had little in the way of attacking support and was replaced by Kevin Davies way into the second half.

Frandsen himself had a free kick which was to brush past the post but the away side rarely threatened and former Wanderers target Arnold Bruggink was unable to open up the Bolton defence despite some good link up play.

Stelios Giannakopoulos got more into the game as it went on and he could of opened the scoring with a half volley in the second half following Pedersen's lay off in the area.

Fousenni Diawara on trial from St Etienne came on for Bruno N'Gotty and another trialist Ibrahim Ba came on for Giannakopoulos and Ba himself could of opened the scoring but he couldnt keep his shot down. Diawara won a lot in the air as did Davies but the main problem is scoring goals, the Laville/N'Gotty partnership seems solid so its up to Sam to find a striker before the month is out.
