Big Sam praised the team after Saturday's 0-0 draw with Southampton and picked out the clean sheet as a major plus point heading into this weekend's local derby six-pointer with Blackburn.
"It was an exceptionally good battling performance for a precious point. Importantly, that is two clean sheets on the trot for us and it is important to get out of the bottom three. In that respect, the West Ham result was massive for us. We have to string an unbeaten run together and get another home victory to settle us down."
Sam also commented on Youri Djorkaeff's debut saying, "I am pleased with how he settled in and I thought he had a decent first game. He struggled with the pace and looked a bit tired when we took him off."
The Wanderers now need a vital three points in their home match with Blackburn to increase the distance between the two to seven points.
