Bolton Wanderers reserves managed to get their first points of the new FA Premier Reserve League (North) season with a goalless draw against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
In the first half the home side rarely tested on loan Andy Oakes in the Bolton goal with the keeper not having to be tested in the opening period as Wanderers did well to halt an experienced Baggies team.
Bedi Buval had Bolton's first chance of the contest on 11 minutes when he saw his free kick well saved by former Republic of Ireland U21 international Joe Murphy.
Nigerian midfielder Blessing Kaku also had a chance in the opening exchanges to start the scoring but the recent signing from Ashdod blazed over the crossbar for Bolton following a good pass from the midfield.
Shortly before half time Frenchman Buval had another chance to score for the Trotters but saw his shot flash past Murphy's post following a good cross by the former Sunderland striker Michael Bridges.
After the break West Brom became a bit more adventourous with youngster Kyle Patterson just failing to get shot on target five minutes after the interval after a good move down the left hand side by Lloyd Dyer.
Bolton striker Bridges then tested Murphy with a stinging free kick but the former Tranmere Rovers stopper was once again equal to anything the away side threw at him.
Cardiff City target Sean Gregan nearly gave Albion the lead just after the hour but a last minute interception by Bolton full back Ricky Shakes prevented the ex-Preston captain from connecting to Adam Chambers dangerous cross.
Charlie Comyn-Platt and substitute James Sinclair tried in vain to make the breakthrough for Wanderers but the Baggies defence stood firm and in the end a point proved useful. Albion have now drawn all their fixtures to date in the reserve league whilst Bolton are still looking for that ilusive first win. Positives out of the game where the first half return of Florent Laville who managed to play the first 45 minutes of the match.
